BIG TREES??!!

Big Trees??!! Big trees are what you will see at Calaveras Big Trees State Park.  Big Trees are what I got to see.  I was given the opportunity to visit the state park last year the day before Mother’s Day with a hiking group out of Sacramento through www.meetup.com.  It was wonderful that the hiking trip to this park had come up, as I had been wanting to visit the park for a while now.  The park is four miles northeast of the small mountain city of Arnold, along State Highway 4 in Calaveras County.  It became a state park in 1931, in order to preserve the giant sequoias.  It’s home to the well-known “Discovery Tree” or the “Big Stump”, the first Sierra Redwood, which was noted by Augutus T. Dowd back in 1852.

The trail our group hiked was in the North Grove, which is a gentle, paved and well-marked trail, which is 1.5 miles long.  Take a look:

Well I hope you enjoyed this brief tour of Calaveras Big Trees State Park! It is a nice park to visit on a great weekend day or holiday! I know I’d like to go back again and visit.  So if you ever find yourself in Calaveras County and trying to figure out what to do, pay a visit to Calaveras Big Trees State Park.  You’ll be glad you did!!

Cheers,

Rickey
